Specifying SCOTT-T transformers

Knowing what you need is vital in ordering a Scott-T transformer.
Leaving something out can sometimes be quite costly.

MANDATORY:

  1. 2 or 3 phase input, and terminal numbers.
  2. 2 or 3 phase output, and terminal numbers.
  3. Input voltage, frequency, tolerances. Default: both ±5%.
  4. Voltage secondary and tolerance. Default: ±2%.
  5. Load on secondary. (Is it resistive, inductive, impedance at an angle.) Default: no load.
  6. Angular accuracy. Default: 1 minute maximum over 0 - 65°C ambient temperature.
  7. Terminal types (surface mount, PC plug in, leads, solder lugs, etc)
  8. Envelope. (open unit, encapsulated, in potted shell, maximum envelope size).
Default: MIL-T-27 grade 6, class S. (Open, varnished. Rated 130°C.)
  9. Ambient temperature. Default: 0 to 65°C. Max temperature rise. Default: 40°C.
  10. Phasing vs terminal numbers. (Schematic drawing, polarity dots, etc.) Default: additive.

MAYBE:

  1. Quadrature or differential phase shift. Default: N/A.
  2. Taps on windings. Default: none.
  3. Maximum regulation if unit has an appreciable load. Default: 5%.
  4. Maximum phase shift. Default: N/A.
  5. Is angular accuracy requirement different with and without a load. Default: "no" .
  6. If unit has an appreciable load, is the secondary voltage required at no load or at full load. Default: no load.
  7. Marking. Default: BG code ident + BG part number. (26522/A1234)
  8. Lead colors. Default: MIL numbering (Bn,R,O,Y,Gn,Bu,V,Gy,W,Bk)
  9. Any MIL specs. Default: MIL-T-27, grade 6 class S. (Open, varnished. Rated 130°C.)
  10. Minimum input impedance. Default: N/A.
  11. Insulation resistance. Default: >10 Gohms .
  12. Dielectric voltage. Default: per MIL-T-27.
  13. If it would save size and cost, may we specify a padding resistor,. Default: "no".
  14. If surface mount unit, packaged in tape and reel. Default: "yes".
  15. If on tape and reel, do we supply our patent pending "REEL SORT" instead of serial numbering. (All units on a reel match.) Default: "yes".
  16. Duty cycle. Default: 100%.
